About Hansei Consulting
About the Founder
Hansei Consulting was founded by Brendan Brosnan, an Industrial Engineer and educator with a background in Lean Six Sigma, Action Research, and Strategic Quality Management. With over 20 years of combined experience across manufacturing, process improvement, and education, he brings a rare balance of technical insight and human-centered leadership and training skills to organisations.
Having worked in Ireland, the Middle East, and Asia, he has led and supported projects in OEE improvement, SMED, problem solving capability, and organizational learning. His work is driven by the Japanese principle of Hansei — reflection for continuous improvement — and a belief that lasting change begins with people who think deeply about problems and act with purpose.
He holds a B.Eng in Process Engineering, a Master’s in Strategic Quality Management, and a Master’s in Education (Leading Learning and Teaching). He is also a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt with completed Black Belt projects, and has coached teams in structured problem solving and system improvement across multiple industries. He holds a Master Black Belt in lean and 6 Sigma
Our Consulting
At Hansei Consulting, we help organizations embed reflection and real problem solving into their systems and culture.
Our consulting approach is grounded in Action Research — a collaborative method that combines inquiry, reflection, and implementation. We work alongside your teams to:
Diagnose process and performance issues using data and dialogue
Facilitate structured problem-solving and root cause analysis
Co-create sustainable solutions that strengthen your internal capability
Build a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement
Rather than offering reports or one-off fixes, our work focuses on developing reflective practitioners and problem-solving leaders who sustain improvement long after the project ends.
Our Training
Our training programs develop the thinking and habits needed to drive meaningful change.
We offer customized workshops and blended learning options in:
Structured Problem Solving (PDCA, 5 Whys, A3 Thinking)
Action Research for Practitioners and Leaders
Culture Change and Reflective Practice
Lean Six Sigma Foundations and Project Coaching
Each program combines practical methods, case examples, and guided reflection, ensuring participants don’t just learn tools — they learn how to think, learn, and lead improvement.
Our goal is to help teams move from reacting to problems to reflecting, learning, and continuously improving.
Hansei Services can provide workshops demonstrating the use of a wide range of constructivist, learner centred strategies for learning. These include
- reciprocal teaching
- Jigsaw
- Project based learning
- Problem based learning
- Pair and group work
It is important to be aware of the influence of success criteria in the learning process. Guskey (2005, p.7) states that the teaching and learning process consists of four key components which need to be aligned: as represented in the following diagram
These components include learning goals or standards (success criteria), instruction, corrective feedback, and evaluation. The fourth component assesses whether success criteria have been met. If success criteria is relevant before and after instruction, then it follows that it is important during instruction as well. Overall, Guskey (2005) shows that providing success criteria is important but that it is only one piece of the larger instructional puzzle. Hansei Services has helped organisations in the past to gain curriculum alignment and can do the same for you.
